Your Questions About Emotional Counselling Services

Donald asks…

Are most late-drop petitions approved?

Because I have a class which is causing me lack of sleep, weight gain, depression, and nervous break downs and am seeing a counselor today to hopefully have them help me in late dropping.
The thing is, at my school the counseling services have three reasons for visiting:
educational counseling
emotional couseling
and
late/add drop
But on the form it says it has to be approved first…
Are most late-drop petitions approved?
Thanks! :)

It seems to me like you have very legitimate reasons for dropping this class. I didn’t have any when i dropped a class and my petition was still approved so i say yes, your petition will most likely be approved, though it could be different from college to college

Sandra asks…

how much does a therapist make?

Therapist — “Therapist” is another name for “counselor.” Therapists are people who use counseling to treat mental, emotional and nervous illnesses. Counseling is also called “psychotherapy.” Therapists can be psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers or other professional counselors trained in mental health.

Psychiatrist — A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who treats mental illnesses. He or she has a medical degree. A psychiatrist has a medical license to practice psychiatry. Psychiatry is the study of how to identify, treat and prevent mental illnesses. A psychiatrist is the only type of counselor who can order medications. Other counselors work with psychiatrists to decide if a patient needs medications. Psychiatrists can treat many mental illnesses if they have the right training. Often they treat people with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia.

Psychologist — A psychologist has a doctorate or master’s degree and additional training to diagnose and treat a wide variety of emotional and other psychological problems. A person must be certified and licensed by the State of Ohio to call himself or herself a “psychologist.”

Social workers — Social workers are trained to provide individual, couple, family and group counseling services. In addition, some social workers may be trained to help with crisis situations, neglect, emotional and physical abuse, welfare needs, legal issues and other problems. Most social workers have master’s degrees.

Marriage and family therapists — These counselors are trained to treat couples or families. They can be psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and other trained mental health care providers. Treatments for drug and alcohol addiction often include counseling for family members. A counselor who treats families and couples may also treat individuals.

I am looking for a better job. I have a BA in psychology and am unable to even get an interview. Help!?

I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, graduated with honors, have worked in the social services/counseling field for 6+ years. I have worked with developmentally disabled, anger management clients, sex offender clients, addiction clients, adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders. I also almost have my bachelor’s degree in education, have a provisional teaching certificate. Yet, I can’t even get an interview for jobs I am more than qualified for. I am very precise, my resume is good, all the “i’s” dotted and the “t’s” crossed, etc. When I have managed to get an interview, I am prepared with the specifics of the job and the company, I emphasize my good points and only give as bad points something like, I tend to be a perfectionist or a work-a-holic rather than going on and on about my real bad points. I have good references, I look and act professional. I am very efficient and hard working. However, I am 48,female. Broke from divorce. Help!!I am looking for a better job.

If you are willing to get your foot in the door someplace, you should try going to a Temp agency. People think that these agencies are taboo and that you won’t make a lot of money, but people don’t realize that you make the decision to work someplace or not, and you make your own salary requirements.

I hired a couple of temps through an agency that were making $32-40/per hour with the agency. The great opportunity that you have is that you will find employment at various places and meet your future colleagues. If you don’t like the environment, you can simply ask the agency to place you someplace else. When you find a company that fits you the best, keep your eye open for job openings. When employers have positions available, and they know your work ethic and demeanor, you will have an advantage over the resume droppers.

Best of luck and keep trying!

George asks…

Does anyone know of free or cheap marriage counselling in Australia?

My husband and I live in Brisbane and have been married almost a year. A lot of issues have developed, no abuse or anything, mainly control and some emotional issues and not being able to effectively resolve differences. Does anyone know if there is a sort of community or some sort of reasonably priced (not that we put a dollar value on our marriage but we are short of money at the moment and would rather act sooner than later) services? Thanks in advance for any help and ideas. xx
