Your Questions About Counselling Jobs

Paul asks…

Job search help!! What should I look for when looking for financial counseling jobs?

I am currently trying to job hunt and am interested in a financial counseling position with a non-profit compant. I DO NOT want to work for a credit card company…only non-profits! I am having a horrible time finding any jobs that are anything close to what I want to do. I am using Monster and Yahoo Hotjobs and can’t find a thing. Anyone have any search tips for this career or any other sites that could help me? Thanks!! And btw, I will be an AFC (an Accredited Financial Counselor) soon so I have more than the needed experience and credentials.

Learntosucceed.biz is an excellent career consulting firm.
I highly recommend them. I bought their cd which covers interviewing, leadership, implementation and other business skills you don’t learn in school. Also included is access to the phone advice line. You can speak directly to the author. He was a hiring manager on Wall St for many years-very helpful.
Good luck

Betty asks…

COUNSELLING JOBS IN BLACKPOOL. I’m moving to Blackpool and am hoping to find a counselling position.?

I’m fully qualified and also have additional qualifications in counselling children & young people and counselling bereavement & loss. I’ve worked in a G.P surgery, a voluntary counselling agency and with bereaved children & young people. Does anyone know of anything in the Blackpool area, please? I don’t have as much experience as I would like due to the demands of caring for my daughter who had a lot of emotional problems. But I do have a lot to offer! I’m ready to get out there and do the job that I love, so if you know of any paid opportunities in Blackpool please let me know!
Many, many thanks to anyone taking the time to reply.

What kinds of jobs can you get counseling if you don’t have a degree?

I really want a full time job counseling people and helping them but I don’t have a degree yet and I want to start to get in the field so when I do get a degree it might be easier to get a psychologist/ counseling job at a junior high school!!!!

MyDigiResults answers:

Look to companies for an internship or apprentice work. Usually these pay very little if anything at all. They are great for experience and opening up options.

Michael asks…

What other jobs can a person do with a teaching degree if they don’t want to teach?

Are there any counseling jobs a person with a masters in education can do or do you always have to have a degree in counseling? I’m not saying I don’t want to teach but I always thought I’d make a good counselor and sometimes feel interested in doing that. Also are there any jobs that teachers can do besides teaching? Thank you.

MyDigiResults answers:

A teaching degree is one of those great degrees that can come in handy in many ways! To offer a few diverse examples, it would give you a leg up as 1) a tour guide at a museum, 2) an e-learning multimedia producer, 3) a manager. As far as counseling, most but not all counseling opportunities would require additional education and/or certifications, but I think your teaching knowledge would help. You might want to try some volunteer counseling opportunities (anything from suicide hotlines to working with job seekers) to see how you like it and get some experience. Good luck!

Maria asks…
