Your Questions About Emotional Techniques

Robert asks…
All my life I live to avoid pain both physical and emotional and yet all my life I suffer.?
I have recently realized that while I strive to avoid pain I do nothing to SEEK happiness…equating “no pain” with “happiness” and suddenly I see they are NOT equal. The problem is……how does one seek happiness as a survival technique along with avoiding UNhappiness. A friend once said that not getting hurt by my husband was NOT a “GOOD” day…but merely survival. I have equated not getting hurt with a good day. And of course that is not anywhere NEAR a feeling of “happy”. I do not know how to seek “happy”. Any ideas??
MyDigiResults answers:
Well first, I have a question. Have you left the husband that hurts you every day? If you’re in that type of relationship, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to be happy. So if you haven’t done so already, getting out of that would definitely be your first step.

Patriotic appeals because if you didn’t listen to uncle sam u were considered to be unpatriotic.
Uncle sam originally came from the war of 1812 where the us army needed people to sign up to “save this great country”.

Any original ideas for a GCSE drama play?
I have a group of 3 boys and 2 girls which means the play has to be 25 minutes long.
It has to be an serious/emotional theme but show other ideas like humour and romance. It can be anything though really. The play will have all the usual Drama techniques in like monologues, symbolism, still images etc. Perhaps something like different characters linking through a common idea. Honestly I dont have any good ideas so anything is helpful, ill give the best answer the points tonight.
Thanks in advance
MyDigiResults answers:
Hey, for my GCSE play last year we had to do scripted performance. Im not sure if you have to do that too but my play was “Mobile Phones”. It’s deffo emotional like and you could throw in humour too. We decided to use physical theatre and like didn’t have set or costumes so it was all about your performance skills. It’s an awesome play like, you should consider it. Also what we did was use technical things like sound, lighting and a wee power point at the start. It went down really well and we got maked really well. I only lost two marks like and i didn’t honestly think we’d do that well. It was great because we could multi–role and put on different accents and stuff. Check out and see what you think

Donna asks…
How to take Negative Comments and Not get offended/take it good?
Im one that always gets negative words thrown at. Does anyone know a technique (for when im at school) to use to not get so emotional over stuff? When stuff is usually said I get personal and emotional. Anyone got advice on how to take words and maybe make them a good thing?
To the first answer, there not facts, in fact there just bullying comments
MyDigiResults answers:
Are the things being said to you facts … Or are they the opinions and thoughts of others designed to get into your head?
Then why do you choose to rent space in your head to the things those people say? All you do by getting upset is feed their tiny ego’s and give them something to jack to when they’re alone.

Jenny asks…
how can there be such a lack of artistic knowledge in this country nowadays?
granted the poetry i post on here is literally thrown together just for shock value, it seems to me like no one can grasp any absract concepts. it’s like if you dont come flat out and say something no one gets it. has anyone ever heard of salvador dali? surrealism? abstraction? these are all age old techniques but it seems like these paraquats cant put together random imagery in a manner that would invoke the intention of the artist. if i string a bunch of random thoughts together then i am trying to stirr up a wave of emotions radther than just say something plain and simple. what happened to thinking outside the box? am i the only one who’s mind works like a stream on consciousness where my heavily emotional thoughts come in semi-related images and experiences that dont connect together directly outside of the emotion involved? have you ever almost died? were the thoughts going through your mind at the time rational and linear? why are art and emotion so repressed in our society?
if you don’t understand the question simply dont answer and get your points somewhere else.
of course random thoughts arent artistic just because they are random. that is like are for the sake of being artsy which is lame. im not saying the stuff i post here is good because it is not, however when someone is critiquing it all they say is “it’s random” or “its just a bunch of jibber jabber” that is not a good critique. if you are gauging artistic value gauge artistic value dont asses the continuity. is that too hard for you to understand mr smiley face guy?
MyDigiResults answers:
I think we live in an age of information and noise innundation. People don’t pick up a book or listen to music without words that isnt recommended by some pop magazine. Its truly sad, as it means that we have generations who don’t know how to cultivate tools for understanding, like empathy, or how to navigate their own imaginations without it being spoon fed to them by some corporation. I think art as we have known it is dead as we have become such a subjective culture that people now only want to see things they made (myspace, youtube, etc), the me generation raised the generation of choice who can choose premade elements and have programs to magnify narcissim and to take all of the short cuts. Pain and frustration have always been crucial to great art, the current societies ideals have been sanitized by technology, so we lose the great accidents, invention by necessity instead of for profit.

Carol asks…

Helen asks…
Stanislavskis acting techniques?
Proxemic signs
Kinesic signs
Gestus
Emotional objective/ recall
Magic if
Subtext
Circles of concentration
what do they mean
MyDigiResults answers:
None of them mean a hill of beans.
Acting is acting. It is just that simple. The Method is just that, a method. Feel it, live it, and act it. It is not life. It is acting.
Stanislavsky wrote his treatises as a rebellion against affected, playing to the crowd, “out there” acting. Good idea, in concept.
Unfortunately, as Lenin got his hooks on Marx, a disaffected actor named Lee Strasberg got his hooks on Stanislavsky. Just as Lenin did to Marx, he took what he wanted to hear and made it Dogma.
To be fair to Strasberg, he did not do it. Uta Hagen, Stanford Meisner, and other proselytes spread the Word. And the Word was:
You Cannot Act Unless You Suffer.
Bullsh*t. You cannot act unless you can act. The Post-WWII weltenschauung lent credence to the Stanislavski idea that to act meant to suffer. Strasberg was quick to capitalize (and I do mean Capitalize) on this idea. Show Buisiness, is, after all, a Business.
This is news? NO! Said the Word. YOU MUST SUFFER ONSTAGE!
Acting MUST be a form of psychotherapy, otherwise it cannot be valid. Helping the audience to understand, and to participate in a cathartic resolution be damned! It is about the actor’s feelings, and to Hell with the audience.
Needless to say, audiences will not tolerate that for very long. And so they did not.
Remember always:
Whatever you do , you are being judged. Whenever you act, you are being watched.
By people who sign your paychecks. Trust not in academic acting. Act, and do not ask.
